Thank you for your interest in learning about how to support those dealing with end of life concerns. We hope you can join us for our summer hospice volunteer training!
Summer SLO Volunteer Training
The training will take place on three consecutive Fridays: August 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 9:00am to 3:00pm in San Luis Obispo. This is a 3 session training and we ask that potential volunteers attend all 3 classes. If you have to miss one class we can make arrangements to meet with you one-on-one to fill you in on the what you missed.
Many of the Central Coast Hospice staff will be speaking to the class about their roles. Some of the training topics include: History and Mission of Hospice; Medical Concerns of Patients, Family Dynamics and Communication Skills; Role of the Hospice Spiritual Counselor, Medical Social Worker and Bereavement Counselor; and Volunteer Guidelines/Practices.
A binder of teaching materials and weekly lunches are included in the training. If after the training you find that you would like to become a volunteer then an interview, fingerprinting and TB test will be required.
A hospice volunteer typically provides 3-4 hours a week (with the same patient each week) of companionship, emotional and practical support or respite care to the patients and families that Central Coast Hospice (CCH) serves. Volunteers are a vital part of the hospice team as they can provide the time and attention that patients and families need and deserve. CCH serves patients from Paso Robles to Santa Barbara. Volunteers help the same patient each week and we do our best to match volunteers to patients that live near them.
We hope you can join us! If you have questions, please contact us at 805-540-6020.
