LOCATION: The Children’s Garden, San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden,
3450 Dairy Creek Road, San Luis Obispo, CA
NEED: Camp Leaders to work with kids grades 2 - 5th
JOB DESCRIPTION: If you enjoy working with children and being in a beautiful outdoor environment with friendly like-minded people this could be the place for you! The Children’s Adventure Camp runs from July 31-August 3 2018 from 9am - 4pm. There are one or two shifts per day. Volunteers will have shifting responsibilities throughout the week depending on your interest. This is wonderful experience for your resumes or just a great time fostering outdoor education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will vary depending on your interest but some responsibilities include:
- Monitoring camper behavior
- Assisting on curriculum hikes (Helping to enforce expectations, set up activities and participate).
- Supervising meal behavior and clean-up.
- Leading group bonding activities in your group, facilitating clean-up process for afternoon garden inspection.
- Communicating any concerns or questions with the Education Director, and fellow counselors.
- Escorting students to their activities on time.
- Creating a community within your group and with all students.
- Being an active member of the community the entire duration of the program (5 days).
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Interest in working with children (experience preferred but not required)
- Interest and knowledge in any of the following: plants, animals, craft making, cooking, group games (preferred but not required)
- Good with time management
- Standing stamina
- Background check required
TRAINING: Training is provided on site a few weeks before summer camp.
COMMENTS: We encourage volunteers to wear sturdy footwear and bring their own gloves, water bottle, lunch and sunscreen. Snacks provided.
