Visitor center docents staff the front desk of the visitor center, direct tourists to nearby points of interest, interpret exhibits, assist with public programs and local community outreach events, conduct regular exhibit upkeep, and assist with future program development. Docents may also have the opportunity to assist with in-person field trips for local elementary school students. Docents will receive training to learn about sanctuary research and resource protection programs, visitor center operations and a wide range of natural and cultural resources within the sanctuary.
Benefits: Volunteers will gain knowledge about marine biology, oceanography, and environmental conservation in connection to the various exhibits. Being a docent also includes invitations to special events and our volunteer appreciation programs. Students at Cal Poly who have a Junior standing or above may also be eligible for credit in MSCI 401.
