The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association appreciates the pride and care business owners put into their storefronts by keeping them clean and inviting. Clean storefronts and sidewalks are business owners’ responsibilities. Collective efforts of our business owners help to bring more customers to Downtown San Luis Obispo. Unfortunately, not all businesses take part in regular storefront cleanings, and there are sidewalk sections that could use a little love.
The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association is organizing a community-wide work day to show our residents’ pride by making the downtown area shine like new. Volunteers will be broken up into teams and assigned a section of downtown with a “to-do” list and supplies to complete the job. Tasks will include picking up litter; sweeping sidewalks; cleaning benches, trashcans, light poles, news racks, bike racks, planters and tree grates; cleaning window sills, pruning trees and cleaning up spills on the sidewalk. This family friendly event certainly encourages community participation.
Throughout the month of May, businesses will be encouraged to participate in a storefront cleaning challenge. Participants show your support for Downtown by using the #DowntownProud and #DowntownSLO hashtags on social media sites. Participants will be recognized on June 6th at the Downtown Proud clean up day and in all subsequent media.
