Join with others who are interested in helping save the environment one rooftop at a time. This free, 3-hr. training workshop will teach you the basics of electricity, solar technology, the process of installing rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, safety, etc.
The workshop is offered by SunWork (SunWork.org), a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit that installs rooftop PV systems on low-electricity-using homes. SunWork also does installations for other nonprofits, such as churches, homeless shelters, etc. Its mission is to make solar energy more available and affordable to these two markets which face high costs (and often a lack of interest) from traditional solar installers.
SunWork is more affordable for homeowners and nonprofits because of its trained volunteers who help install rooftop systems under the direction of SunWork's professional Project Leads. Once volunteers take the 3-hr. training, they're eligible to participate in SunWork installations and get hands-on solar experience. No prior experience of any type is needed.
The workshop is free, but registration is suggested. To register, or for more information, visit sunwork.org/events , call 805-550-5898, or email info@sunwork.org. Refreshments provided.
There is a separate presentation in the afternoon that discusses the economics of going solar along with purchasing tips.
