Join the Watershed Stewards Program and the City of San Luis Obispo for a community volunteer restoration event! We will be removing non-native invasive French Broom from the Reservoir Canyon Loop Trail and replacing it with native cottonwood. French Broom is a fast growing woody plant species that out-competes native riparian plants, destabilizes the creek bank, and increases fire danger in the area. The loss of native riparian canopy cover and the increase in sedimentation are detrimental to native fish and invertebrate species living in the creek, especially Steelhead Trout!
Volunteers will meet at the Reservoir Canyon Trailhead Parking Area, at the end of Reservoir Canyon Road. Take US-101 North from San Luis Obispo to Reservoir Canyon Road, located just before going up Cuesta Grade, then follow Reservoir Canyon Road to the parking lot at the end.
Please note: This event will include some hiking, small stream crossings, and possible contact with poison oak. If you are uncomfortable with any of the above, there will still be opportunities to help! Please wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and close-toe waterproof boots, if possible. Gloves, tools, snacks, and coffee will be provided.
