SLO County Farm to School Working Group's mission is to get children involved in a local food and farm culture that nurtures us all. The Farm to School Mixer will be an event to meet others interested in celebrating school gardens and healthy food in SLO County. You will be able to share your interests and find out more about getting involved in Farm to School and the Growing Edible Education Symposium to be held in October 2017. Opportunities include sponsorship, donations, skills sets, volunteering, and advocacy.

Farm to School improves the connections communities have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers by modifying food purchasing and education practices at school and education sites. Students will profit with access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities. Farm to school includes:

  • Education: students engage in education activities related to agriculture, food, health or nutrition;
  • School Gardens: students engage in hands-on learning through gardening; and
  • Procurement: local foods are purchased, promotes and served as lunch, snack or a taste-test.

Farm to school enables youth and their families to generate informed food choices while supporting the local economy and contributing to active communities.

Partners in the San Luis Obispo County Food System Coalition’s Farm to School working group include: One Cool Earth, San Luis Obispo Office of Education, Central Coast Grown, The Wellness Kitchen, CREEC Network, and UC CalFresh Nutrition Education.
