Description

Join us for our monthly workday Saturday, May 21st to help remove invasive French broom seedlings in the Monterey pine forest. We've done the hard work of removing the parent plants, which were as high as 15 feet! These are their offspring and we want to get rid of them before they get big. If we don't, they'll crowd out pine seedlings that will provide the forest of the future. They'll also grow into a major fire hazard as the mature shrubs are highly flammable.

This is easy work, hand pulling seedlings in soft ground that are less than a foot tall. We'll be working in the mottled shade of the rustling pines with song birds darting about overhead. Dress in sturdy shoes, long pants and long sleeves. If you can bring a shovel or trowel, great, but don't worry about it if you don't have tools. Most are small enough you don't need any. Water & snacks provided.

Meet at the pullout on the west side of Highway 1 at the Santa Rosa Creek bridge at 9am.
