Who We Are

Literacy For LIFE is a nonprofit organization committed to assisting adult learners and their families in the development of English language communication skills.

What We Do

We recruit and prepare volunteers as tutors, who in turn provide individual and group instruction to learners in reading, writing, speaking and basic number skills. The primary goal is to promote individual awareness and involvement in the literacy process, while furthering the ability of learners to function well in the community. The success of Literacy for Life's learning centers depends entirely on volunteer effort! There are Learning Centers throughout the Central Coast, which provide their Learners and Tutors with books, learning materials, and a friendly learning environment.

Our next tutor orientation/training will be held April 27 & May 4, 2026, 6pm both days at Canyon Creek Apartments Learning Center, 400 Oak Hill Road, Paso Robles. Pre-registration is required before the meeting dates. Contact assistant@literacyforlifeslo.org

The training will be in Paso Robles, but the volunteering will take place at one of our centers in San Luis Obispo County – San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cambria, Los Osos, Nipomo
