Volunteer: Front Desk VolunteerThe ideal candidate for this position is a friendly, outgoing individual who has compassion and empathy for those in life’s difficult situations and whose desire is to offer a warm smile and assistance to the clients. The Front Desk is the busy hub of the Prado Access Center. Some of the duties the Front Desk Volunteers perform on a regular basis are as follows: Checking in clients.Assist clients with making outbound calls.Receive and distribute incoming mail to clients and staff.Hand out hygiene and undergarments to participants as needed.Hand towels and washcloths to participants.Assist with our lunch count and community lunches.Other general duties associated with this position are answering client questions, assisting clients with signing up for a locker, signing up to use the computer in the Day Area, providing toiletries and towels upon request. Volunteer: Warming Center VolunteerThe 40 Prado Warming Center opens between November 1st-March 31st when the weather forecast includes rain or temperatures below 38* F. Volunteers are especially helpful on these nights, as we open up 40 Prado to more people to stay warm and dry throughout the night. Shifts available: 6:00pm - 9:00pm, 9:00pm - 12:00am, 12:00am - 3:00am, 3:00am - 6:00am Volunteers assist with the evening shift, set up cots, help clients check in and get settled and warm for the night, supervise sleeping areas, and help prepare the shelter for the next day. Volunteers can bring a book or work to keep busy while supervising sleeping clients. These shifts are a great opportunity for college students who have course required hours to complete.Hand out any linen, clean clothing, or food as needed.
