The ideal candidate for this position is a friendly, outgoing individual who has compassion and empathy for those in life’s difficult situations and whose desire is to offer a warm smile and assistance to the clients. The Front Desk is the busy hub of the Prado Access Center.

Some of the duties the Front Desk Volunteers perform on a regular basis are as follows:

Shift times are 8:00am - 10:00am, 10:00pm - 12:00pm, 12:00pm - 2:00pm

CAPSLO is looking for volunteers to donate hygiene items and create hygiene kits for the participants of 40 Prado Homeless Services Center.

Needed items include travel sized items of the following:

The 40 Prado Warming Center opens between November 1st-March 31st when the weather forecast includes rain or temperatures below 38* F. Volunteers are especially helpful on these nights, as we open up 40 Prado to more people to stay warm and dry throughout the night. Shifts available: 6:00pm - 9:00pm, 9:00pm - 12:00am, 12:00am - 3:00am, 3:00am - 6:00am Volunteers assist with the evening shift, set up cots, help clients check in and get settled and warm for the night, supervise sleeping areas, and help prepare the shelter for the next day. Volunteers can bring a book or work to keep busy while supervising sleeping clients. These shifts are a great opportunity for college students who have course required hours to complete.Hand out any linen, clean clothing, or food as needed.

The Warming Center also needs donations of the following items. Warming Center donations can be dropped off directly at 40 Prado Road.

Head Start Programs are national programs that promotes school readiness for children under five from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. The mission is to provide comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to support the development of the whole child. The Early Education and Child Care Internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in early childhood education. Tasks include playing with children, helping to clean and organize, and other tasks as needed by the Center Directors. Do you have an interest in clothing/fashion? The Clothing Closet needs volunteers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday's from 1:00pm-2:30pm. This opportunity assists participants with shopping the closet for needed items of clothing or coordinating an interview outfit.

Dinner Meal Prep Volunteer is located at 40 Prado Road in San Luis Obispo.

Arrival at 3:00pm, wash hands and add gloves and hair net.

Provide support to kitchen staff in preparation for dinner service

Help with any clean up that may be needed after dinner has been prepared (dishes, clean off surfaces that were used, put and organize supplies away)

Breakfast servers help with the most important meal of the day!

• Arrive at 7:45am, sign in on the Ipad, and begin set up (make coffee, retrieve supplies, prepare and set out breakfast foods).
• Responsible for checking expiration/best by dates, use food that is closest to its expiration date first.
• Responsible for monitoring breakfast items and replenishing as needed.
• Responsible for notifying staff when breakfast foods or supplies are needed for the next day.

Shift time is daily 7:45am to approximately 9:15am

Dinner Servers:

• Arrive at 4:45pm to check in and finish setting up to serve the evening meal to families first and then the general population.
• Responsible for setting up food to be served, keeping aware of the portion sizes given by staff.
• Responsible for making sure extra meals are not wasted, and properly saved for those who would like seconds or who are arriving late.
• Responsible for working with staff to ensure an efficient serving experience for all.
• Ask staff if there are any “saver meals” for participants arriving late (1st check).

Shifts are Monday through Thursday 4:45pm to approximately 6:15pm.
