Translating: Our patients are encouraged to bring translators, but they are not always able to do so. We are looking for volunteers who can either come in person or be available via phone to help translate for our patients and providers. This position can be virtual or in-person.

Front Desk Support: This role would include answering phones and educating our patients about the resources we offer. You would also help schedule, educate, and interact with patients who have any questions.

Clinical Providers: Clinical Providers that are bilingual are high in demand at our clinic, and short in supply. Please submit an expression of interest under Clinical Providers, but be sure to note that you are also bilingual, and in which language.

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is lin need of volunteers to do a variety of clerical tasks including passing out informational fliers and sharing about the museum at local outreach events.

Outreach Volunteers would need their own transportation to attend local events on weekends, per an on-call schedule as they are available.

When the volunteer can attend, they would help setup the museum outreach table, visit with and pass out info fliers to attendees.

Training will be provided to learn about the museum and how to promote the museum when passing out info fliers at the outreach table.

If you like getting crafty, this is an amazing opportunity to add some art to school gardens! We are always in need of painted garden signs, birdhouses, insect hotels, etc. This is an independent position completed from home suitable for all ages. We are open to all kinds of ideas! 

Do you have an interest in improving the health, academic success, and wellbeing of elementary school students? One Cool Earth is a nonprofit in SLO County creating school garden programs that power healthy, happy and smart youth. We believe every child deserves a place to grow.

The Garden Educator Assistant will work with students and assist a One Cool Earth’s Garden Educator with preparing and teaching lessons in school gardens. They will also perform garden maintenance tasks in the garden. The position would be well-suited for someone who enjoys working with children and has a background knowledge or strong interest in gardening, education, nutrition, biology, and/or natural resource management.

ECHO needs support from groups or individuals to help support our nightly dinner program. The dinner program works by volunteer groups purchasing and preparing homemade meals to be served each night at the shelter. The meals are prepared by the meal providers and brought to ECHO ready to serve(You may be able to use our kitchen to prepare your meal if discussed in advance). We do have an oven and stove top available to keep food warm.

Meal providers should arrive at ECHO at 4:00pm to set-up. We ask that you bring 80-100 servings of ready to serve entrée, salad & dressing, a vegetable and dessert (cookies are ideal).

ECHO (El Camino Homeless Organization) provides shelter for some of the men, women, and children experiencing homelessness in SLO County, 365 nights a year. Please consider helping ECHO out as we continue to provide services to those in our county who need it the most!

Your help is needed to care for baby oaks along the Santa Margarita Ranch Learning Among the Oaks (LATO) Trail through the summer! any updates to it.

Duties: to meet visitors with a smile and a “Welcome to our Museum” greeting; to accompany individuals and groups on tours through the Museum, interpreting each display
and explaining the artifacts; to be flexible enough to adapt the tour to the visitor’s needs or interests; to accept artifact donations by completing the donation form, ensuring it is signed
by both the donor and the docent, and to make a photocopy for the donor; to maintain security of the Armory by always accompanying the visitors on tours of the Armory; to be a
lifelong learner; to consult with the Docent Coordinator or Museum Curator as needed; to be on time for duty.

Disaster Action Team Member
Respond to local disaster scenes to meet the needs of those affected by disasters such as providing shelter and food and other Red Cross services.

Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are local, personal disasters like home fires. They may not make the news, but we know they are just as devastating to the families affected. Trained and available, Disaster Action Team volunteers are ready to respond to these emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. From offering a shoulder to cry on, to meeting any immediate needs for shelter or supplies, to connecting people with long term recovery services, our volunteers ensure that families don’t have to face tough times alone.

Disaster Action Team volunteers help local families cope with emergencies.

Home fires and other disasters can occur any time, any place. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. After your initial training, your shifts will include responding to emergencies within 2 hours, night or day, rain or shine, either on the scene or coordinating remotely to provide immediate compassion and care. With experience and further training you can take on leadership and response coordination roles to have a wider impact. At the same time, you’ll be developing skills that you may choose to apply to larger-scale disaster response efforts with the Red Cross.

The Red Cross teaches resiliency skills through three impactful programs—Coping with Deployments, Reconnection Workshops, and Mind-Body Workshops. The programs provide tools to address the challenges and stress of military life and reintegration with family and community.

All resiliency programs are confidential and led by licensed mental health professionals with additional Red Cross training.

Eligibility Requirement: Master’s level or higher mental health professional with independent, clinical and unencumbered license in one of the following disciplines: Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, School Counseling/Psychology; Nursing (APN or CS in Mental Health area; RN’s who are board certified in Psy/MH).

We also need volunteers who can provide care as delegated by a licensed nurse in shelters; this could include assisting with activities of daily living, personal assistance services, providing health education, and helping to replace medications, durable medical equipment, or consumable medical supplies.

Daily observation and health screening for COVID-19-like illness among shelter residents may also be required. We have both associate and supervisory level opportunities available. If you are an RN, LPN, LVN, APRN, NP, EMT, paramedic, MD/DO, or PA with an active, current, and unencumbered license, this is a role for you. Ancillary roles are available locally for Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Home Health Aides, student nurses, and medical students. RNs supervise all clinical tasks.

Help us keep our clinic on track by assisting with patient confirmation phone calls! We are looking for volunteers to call patients to remind them of their appointments the day before they are scheduled. This role requires a volunteer who speaks Spanish and English. Walk patients through a basic vision check. Perform vision field tests as well as other vision and diagnostic tests for patients. Assist patients with new glasses. Training will be provided, no experience necessary! Spanish speaking appreciated!

We are looking for people who are eager to assist our volunteer providers through their visits with our patients. Our scribe will be trained on how to use our patient database system and take notes during the patient visit. 

The Donation Manager will help us keep track of the donations we receive from our community. Beyond taking inventory, this person can help us sort the donations and find homes for them if we cannot use them here at the clinic. We receive everything from medical equipment like crutches and leg braces to CPAP machines and medications. A general knowledge of medical equipment would be helpful in recognizing how to best utilize these donations, but it is certainly not necessary. :)

Growing Grounds Farm is a 7-acre wholesale farm and nursery providing horticultural therapy, vocational rehabilitation, and socialization opportunities for adults with severe mental illness.

Growing Grounds Farm relies on the efforts of a broad spectrum of community volunteers for the completion of large projects and ongoing maintenance. There are many ways to volunteer at Growing Grounds Farm from one time spur of the moment efforts to ongoing long-term volunteering!

The nursery is located at 3740 Orcutt Road in San Luis Obispo and we welcome volunteers on a drop in basis Tuesday through Friday between 10 AM and 1 PM. For volunteering during this time frame, all you need do is show up prepared to work (long pants, closed-toed shoes, face mask) and sign an Oath of Confidentiality as you will be working alongside TMHA clients. We also recommend you bring water and sunscreen as needed.

Are you passionate about educating and inspiring others to appreciate the amazing life that exists in our oceans? If so, then volunteer at the Central Coast Aquarium. Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, and we wouldn’t exist without them.

We ask that our volunteers be fully vaccinated.  The wearing of masks is voluntary.

The volunteers who work in the reception area greet clients at the door.  Because of COVID precautions and our desire to protect both our clients and our volunteers the clients remain at the open door while volunteers get the needed information from them and check them in.  There are two people working in this area, one at the desk (filing out required paperwork) and one using the computer to make sure information is current.  

We need help in both positions!  

There are many opportunities if you would like to volunteer in the morning.

We need volunteers to work in the pantry receiving and sorting commercial donations and deliveries from the SLO Food Bank.  These volunteers also pre-fill boxes of food that will be given to clients in the afternoon.

We need volunteers to pick up food from groceries in the No County, and food from the SLO Food Pantry.  There are some pick ups where you can use your own car.  We also have a van for larger orders and to pick up food from the Food Bank.

Because of COVID we have modified our procedures in order to protect our volunteers and our clients.  Volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated. The wearing of masks is now voluntary.  Volunteers are asked to make a commitment to work on the same day every week.  Some volunteers work 4 weeks a month, some less often.  We also have need for people who can serve as 'back-up' when another volunteer is unable to work.

This position will require that you are able to lift items of at least 20 lbs. 

Are you interested in helping to provide food for low income families in our community?  ALF Food Pantry is in need of volunteers to to hand out pre-filled boxes and produce to clients.

Food distribution to clients is from 1 - 3PM Monday through Friday.

Sometimes we need volunteers when we least expect it. Prioritizing our clients often means we can fall behind on clerical work, preparing for events, and day to day duties. When these projects come up, we need someone to help us get everything in tip top shape--and fast! 

The simplest tasks can make the biggest impact on TMHA's day to day. Will you join our Project Team? 

When signing up for our Project Team, our Community Resource Coordinator will contact you to learn more about your availability/schedule. When these pesky projects pop up, we will contact you if the project timeline fits within your schedule. You will be under no obligation to participate in the project, but able to pick and choose from the opportunities sent your way.

COMMENTS:  We encourage volunteers to wear sturdy footwear and bring their own gloves, water and sunscreen. 

ECHO Paso Robles Homeless Shelter provides a place to stay and dinner for adults and children experiencing homelessness in Paso Robles. The role of meal provider is the backbone of the nightly meal distribution program that serves about 2000 meals to 200 individuals in our community per month! 

We need your help!

Our nightly meal program operates 365 days a year and is open to anyone in the community, no questions asked! Each meal is donated by community members like yourself as well as local businesses. 

Many meal providers organize groups of cooks, each of which makes one part of a meal to provide 60-100 meals. Others buy pizza or support local restaurants by purchasing meals from them. The possibilities are almost endless!

ECHO has a supply of canned and dry goods that are available to meal providers to pick up for free to use in their meals. ECHO also places weekly orders with the SLO food bank and can order food for meal providers to use in their meals with enough notice.

All meals must be prepared off site and delivered to the shelter at 4:15 pm on your scheduled meal provider date.

Friday December 10th, Sunday the 12th, Monday the 13th, Tuesday the 21st, Wednesday the 22nd, Thursday the 23rd, Wednesday the 29th, and Thursday the 30th.

Our morning sign out volunteers are essential in creating a welcoming and safe atmosphere to the people we serve. 

In this role, you will assist staff in ensuring that clients staying at the shelter have performed their morning tasks of cleaning their rooms, and you will check them out of the shelter for the day.

What Does a Volunteer Shift Look Like?

From 6:00AM - 8:00AM, MCO volunteers work alongside staff to check shelter guests out of the shelter for the day.

We're looking for a little extra help with greeting folks who come to the garden at our Garden Gift Shop. You'd get to welcome people in, accept their entry fee and have a perfect opportunity to talk with them about the Garden and all we have to offer! It's really fun meeting our visitors since everyone is in a great mood when they come to SLOBG!

We have 2 hour shifts (or more!) from Mondays-Wednesdays. As these are fairly slow days, you'll have some quiet time between visitors. Here's where you can really help out with your office skills to assist with various admin tasks! We've always got lots of things that need doing: organizing supplies, data input, answering phones, making copies & scans, etc.

Volunteering at the Gift Shop and office is also a great way to get to know the garden better, learn more about Mediterranean plants and climates and meet other volunteers!!

The Director of Development & Events is a board member who works with the board and the Executive Director to facilitate fundraising and recruit community members to serve on the Development Committee, which they chair. Their primary responsibility is to facilitate at least two fundraising events per year. They assist other board members in assigned fundraising tasks. They may be required to do direct donor solicitations, write appeal letters, conduct donor follow-up calls, or collaborate on grant applications. They will solicit businesses sponsorships. They use social media and other avenues to promote any organizational events and actively engage their contacts to attend. 

You do not need experience to do well in this role, but you do need a desire to learn about nonprofit development and a willingness to tackle a challenge. This is a great opportunity for anyone that is interested in going into fundraising professionally.

We are looking for puppy raisers for our upcoming puppies! Between now and July, we will be getting several puppies (Labs, Goldens and Doodles). Puppy raising can be a solo or family experience. College students welcome! A puppy raiser is a foster who cares for the puppy for the first 8-10months of its life. The primary goal is to socialize the puppy by bringing it everywhere with you and to start the very basic tasks like Sit, Down, Stay etc. Before you pick up your puppy, a service dog trainer spends an hour with you going over exactly how to train and care for the puppy. We cover all food and vaccine expenses. We also provide collar, leash, kennel and everything else you need to care for the puppy. The only out of pocket cost for our raisers are any additional treats, toys, or clothes they might buy for their puppy. Once the puppy returns to DDG, it starts service dog training! We always reach out to the puppy raiser to invite them back for the graduation process. 

We are in desperate need of someone to help with data entry! 

We are switching camp softwares and will need help implementing this transition.

Each Monday, UCP hosts UCP Friends Hour, a virtual opportunity for members to socialize. 

We will have our staff on the Zoom to talk about planning trips into the community after the Covid-19 crisis, fun things to do at home and visit. 

The Friends Hour is for our members, their families and their support staff.  It will be a fun hour, but UCP also wants to hear how we can support members and their families during this difficult time.  

Some of our members are ready to go out into the community on Connections Trips - small groups of 1-3 people with a UCP driver and volunteer to go on hikes, kayaking, shopping, or just out for a ride to get out of the house.

Members choose a lunch spot, and can choose a safe & socially distanced activity in SLO County. 

Lunch is included for volunteers and drivers. Temperature checks and masks are required for each person. 

With 512 acres of property and an average of one group staying with us nearly every week, there is plenty to do at Granite Ridge!

We are willing to work with your schedule, interests, and abilities to find a perfect short or long-term project for you.

Central Coast State Parks Association is looking for new board members...maybe that's you!

CCSPA, in partnership with California State Parks, promotes public awareness and stewardship of our natural resources and cultural heritage, now and for future generations. As a cooperative association, we financially support interpretation, education, and volunteer efforts in CA State Parks along the Central Coast.

Have you visited the Monarch Butterfly Grove in Pismo Beach? Taken a stroll through the Spooner Ranch House at Montaña de Oro State Park? Attended a Mind Walks seminar in Morro Bay or explored the exhibits at the Museum of Natural History in Morro Bay State Park? These are all places and programs that we support, and we’d love more help!

Board members must have a passion for the education, interpretation, and conservation of our State Parks. We meet once a month in San Luis Obispo, and look for board involvement in a variety of events and programs throughout the year. We encourage ongoing learning and skills-building in our board members by supporting board member attendance at Spokes' training sessions. Board positions have two year terms, renewable for a maximum of three consecutive terms.

Granite Ridge Camp, a local Christian Camp and Retreat Center, is looking for summer and long term interns and staff.

Sales and Marketing - perfect for the retired professional looking to keep busy or augment income. This is a part time commission based position. Looking for a dynamic individual to help sell to churches and groups through the Central Coast and California.

Support Staff - looking for high school & college age students to help in all aspects of camp operations: from working in the kitchen preparing meals to administrative work in the office. We are looking for energetic and self motivated individuals to work with our full time staff and volunteers to make the campers experience as great as possible.

Internships - if you are a high school or college student with a major that you think could compliment our campground let us know - send a resume and cover letter explaining what it is you would like to do and we will work with you to earn college credits for your work here at the camp.

Our Mission:

To help others grow their relationship with Christ, by making camp fun. 

Dinner Servers:

• Arrive at 4:45pm to check in and finish setting up to serve the evening meal to families first and then the general population.
• Responsible for setting up food to be served, keeping aware of the portion sizes given by staff.
• Responsible for making sure extra meals are not wasted, and properly saved for those who would like seconds or who are arriving late.
• Responsible for working with staff to ensure an efficient serving experience for all.
• Ask staff if there are any “saver meals” for participants arriving late (1st check).

Shifts are Monday through Thursday 4:45pm to approximately 6:00pm.

Breakfast servers help with the most important meal of the day!

• Arrive at 7:45am, sign in on the Ipad, and begin set up (make coffee, retrieve supplies, prepare and set out breakfast foods).
• Responsible for checking expiration/best by dates, use food that is closest to its expiration date first.
• Responsible for monitoring breakfast items and replenishing as needed.
• Responsible for notifying staff when breakfast foods or supplies are needed for the next day.

Shift time is daily 7:45am to approximately 9:00am

“To advocate for every child’s birthright to a safe, nurturing, healthy, permanent family; and to help each child in developing his or her full potential.”

CASA volunteers advocate for the needs of infants, toddlers, children and young adults who have been abused or neglected. Volunteers develop a relationship with their assigned child/youth, gather information about the case and make recommendations to the juvenile court. Thirty-six hours of initial training is provided.

All interested community members are encouraged to attend an Information Session to learn more about CASA. CASA has a particular need to increase the number of male volunteers and bi-lingual, bi-cultural volunteers. Volunteers work 10 - 15 hours per month. 

The Dunes Center is a natural history museum and information center in Guadalupe, CA. We are best known for our artifacts from the 1923 film, The Ten Commandments, and our natural history exhibits. Museum docents greet visitors, guide tours of the center, provide information about local attractions, and help with administrative tasks. Training is provided and we are very flexible with your time. We are currently seeking docents to volunteer one or more days Wednesday through Sunday from 10am - 4pm. The Access Support Network is looking for insured, licensed drivers to be available to drive clients to medical and court appointments.

This is typically an infrequent, on-call type of volunteer opportunity that can be worked around your schedule.  Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at dcummings@asn.org for more information. 

Access Support Network provides services to people living with HIV, AIDS and Hep C. We are in need of one or two people who can dedicate a few hours each week to helping out with some administrative tasks. We primarily need filing, but on occasion need someone to help with copying, cutting, and faxing. 

This is a great opportunity for college students wanting to get some experience as it looks good on a resume and is completely flexible.

ASN is looking for someone to do light housekeeping one day per week for about 1 - 2 hours. We are still figuring out the time and day of the week.

Housekeeping would include: folding laundry, cleaning kitchen, cleaning bathroom, maintaining kitty litter box, etc.

ASN is need of a volunteer who can dedicate their time once a week on Mondays to transport a client to and from a medical appointment. 

Client lives in South County and and has their appointments in SLO.

The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit dedicated to ocean conservation through marine mammal response and rehabilitation, as well as education and research. Our San Luis Obispo county triage facility is now accepting applications for our January 2020 new volunteer orientation! We have volunteer roles available for all interests - animal care, response, transport driving, and conservation education!
