Overview:
Your job is to guard the barricades that prevent vehicle entry to Downtown. With road closures and many vehicles coming and going, it’s very important that barricades are monitored and communication throughout the area before and during the parade.
Important: Please do not leave your barricade until SLO Police Department releases you from your duties, then you may move the barricade to the sidewalk and open the road to through traffic.
What to wear: dress warm with multiple layers (gloves, scarf, and a warm hat recommended)
What to bring:a refillable water bottle (we have a water jug in the office to fill before your shift) & snacks; cell phones are only permitted for parade-related business.

Arrive at 1135 Chorro Street, Downtown SLO for an information briefing and safety meeting. You will receive: parade map, entry line-up, intersection assignment, flashlight, & vest You’ll also get pizza!

Head to intersection assignment for barricade monitor position

5:00 PM |
Locate barricade on the sidewalk at assigned intersection and put across street lanes no later than 5:20 PM.

Parade Starts

Keep barricades across road, and DO NOT leave your post until the San Luis Obispo Police Department comes by at the end of the parade and releases you. At this point it is safe to move the barricades to the side of the road and to open the road for through-traffic. |
