Reports to: Docent Coordinator
Responsibilities: to assist Museum visitors in understanding and appreciating what veterans accomplished during their military service in the conflicts displayed; to uphold the Museum’s reputation for excellence; to explain the Museum’s mission statement, the Wall of Honor, and the Veterans History Project; to remain current on the Docent Handbook and on
any updates to it.
Duties: to meet visitors with a smile and a “Welcome to our Museum” greeting; to accompany individuals and groups on tours through the Museum, interpreting each display
and explaining the artifacts; to be flexible enough to adapt the tour to the visitor’s needs or interests; to accept artifact donations by completing the donation form, ensuring it is signed
by both the donor and the docent, and to make a photocopy for the donor; to maintain security of the Armory by always accompanying the visitors on tours of the Armory; to be a
lifelong learner; to consult with the Docent Coordinator or Museum Curator as needed; to be on time for duty.
Qualifications:
This is an ongoing opportunity. It is not a one-time job.
- Be an outgoing and enthusiastic communicator for all age groups
- Be comfortable speaking to groups
- Have the ability to answer questions to the best of their
ability - Possess knowledge about the Museum displays and artifacts
- Some knowledge of military history is preferred. Veteran status is desired
