El Camino Homeless Organization - Paso Robles
Open Volunteer Positions

ECHO Paso Robles is a low-barrier homeless shelter that provides meals and a safe and secure overnight shelter to meet the immediate needs of families and individuals in our community facing food insecurity and homelessness. ECHO’s mission since 2001 is to empower people in SLO County to make a positive change by providing food, shelter, and supportive services.

The following open volunteer positions are listed in order of urgency:

* URGENT * Meal Provider Teams: Meal providers teams are responsible for preparing meals for up to 90 dinner guests who visit the nightly community dinner program. We ask that meal providers deliver a filling meal consisting of a main dish, a vegetable side, a carb/grain of some sort, a dessert, and water bottles. Meal providers are welcome to stay and serve their food, but are not required to. All meals are prepared off site, and we ask that meal provider teams deliver the food at 4:15pm.

Morning Chaperones Tuesday, Saturday 6:00am-8:00am: Morning check-out volunteers work alongside staff to check guests out of the shelter in the morning. Morning Chaperones go around with staff to sign off that each guest has thoroughly cleaned their room.

Meal Servers Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 4:15pm - 5:30 pm: Meal Servers set up the dinner service site, plate dinner, and distribute dinner to guests. This simple position is a great way to get to know the community.

Shower Support Friday 3:45 pm-5:45 pm Shower support volunteers manage the shower sign up list and ensure that each guest has access to shower supplies for their 15 minute shower.

Registration Saturday 4:30pm-5:30pm:  Registration volunteers welcome clients to the site and work alongside staff to sign guests up for the nightly shelter and dinner service.

Shelter Greeters Saturday, Sunday 5:45 pm-6:45 pm:  Two greeter volunteers work together to check guests into the shelter for the night, and pass out linens and towels.

Breakfast/ Lunch Providers 6:00am-7:00am Breakfast/lunch providers are responsible for delivering about 35-50 prepared meals the night before or the morning of their scheduled date. A lunch could be a sandwich, chips, banana, and cookie in a paper bag.  Breakfast/ lunch providers ensure that guests have access to at least two meals a day.
