The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department's Community Wellness Team is looking for volunteers to assist Health Educators in the '19-'20 school year. Volunteers will aide in classroom nutrition education, food activities, and garden-based education in Elementary Schools.

The County's Fall Prevention program is seeking at least one volunteer to help out with weekly classes, in-home assessments, and social group meetings. Duties may include gathering supplies for classes, making healthy recipes, assessing senior homes for fall risk factors, leading exercises, researching relevant news and topics, and facilitating discussions. This volunteer would work directly with the program's Health Education Specialist. 

Classes, assessments, and meetings are scheduled well in advance so the volunteer would have freedom to decide their own schedule and help out as they can, for as long as they wish. This position is unpaid.

This workgroup is comprised of community members, researchers, marketers, etc. who come together to discuss a plan of action for ensuring that e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco don't contribute to nicotine addiction in youth.

We are looking for more community members to join and add their perspective on the issue of e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco: middle/high school & college students, medical professionals, educators, business people, and all others are encouraged to join!

We need 18-20 year old decoys to check if local tobacco retailers are complying with CA Age of Sale Law (21).  Volunteers will be training and accompanied by local law enforcement and Tobacco Control staff. Compliance checks are approximately 4-5 hours and volunteers will be compensated with Target gift cards. Volunteer opportunities are ongoing.   Decoys must have valid CA ID. This will look great on a resume, especially if you are thinking of a career in law enforcement or public health!
